Relive fond Christmas
Memories with this wonderful holiday matinee. Featuring
timeless Christmas tales, you and your family will delight
in the warmth and cheer displayed in these true classics
of the season. From the uplifting transformation of
Ebeneezer Scrooge to the determination and spirit of
Little Women's Jo March, your family will be enthralled

great stocking stuffer.
Scrooge - 1935 - 79 minutes - Black &
White
- This British production of
Dickens's A Christmas Carol has been eclipsed by
subsequent versions, but it stands on its own as a darkly
atmospheric (if sometimes regrettably brisk) telling of
the beloved tale. Even with the rough quality of existing
prints, this Scrooge has a visual intensity
that approaches the bold compositions of German
expressionism. And in its central role it has a mostly
forgotten star: Sir Seymour Hicks, one of the era's
celebrated English stage actors. With his gnarled face and
flyaway hair, Hicks looks every inch the mean old
misanthrope, and his cruelty has a realistic quality
missing in some of the more stylized interpreters of the
role. Hicks had played Scrooge many times on
stage (and before in silent film), and he gets the tenor
of every "Humbug!" just right. As a bandy-legged Bob
Cratchit, Donald Calthorp is a perfect Victorian
illustration come to grinning life.
Little Women - Jo's Story -
1950 - 50 minutes - Black & White
-
Jo has missed out on a trip to Europe, but rather than
letting it get her down, she moves to New York to pursue a
career as a writer. There she meets with varying degrees
of success while befriending her next door neighbor, a
literature professor; their relationship gradually
blossoms into love in this enchanting extension of Louisa
May Alcott's classic tale.
Somewhere in Dreamland - 1936 - 8 minutes, 54
seconds - Color - Animated - A poignant story of two poor
children who are out collecting firewood when they pass by
a toy store, market and finally a bakery. They drool over
the wares in the bakery window but walk away before the
owner can come out and present them with two cupcakes. The
kids go home and eat a meager supper before going to bed.
They both dream they are in dreamland, where everything is
free--cookies, candy, cakes, popcorn and toys. When they
wake up it's all gone but the three merchants have stopped
by to lay out a huge feast for them. Lovely story with
timeless music. Fun for kids of all ages.
Picture-Quality varies on the DVD as each film has
experienced the ravages of time!!
