The criminal kind stand no chance at all with these tough
investigators on the case! From Sgt. Friday's iron
resolve, to the Gangbusters who protect us from the
scourge of the underworld, to the prosecutors who see to
it that these fellows are locked away, these riveting TV
episodes from the annals of Law & Justice pay
well-deserved tribute to those brave men and women whose
duty it is to guard society from the blight of crime!
Dragnet - Big Seventeen
- 1952 - 26
minutes - Black & White - Season 2 - Episode 4 -
The story you are about to see is true. Dragnet was
based on an early 1949 radio show called of the same name.
It starred Jack Webb as Sgt. Joe Friday, a dedicated cop
whose life seemed void of any interests other than being
in law enforcement. He coined the phrase, "just the facts
ma'am" which made him appear polite even though a little
overzealous at times. "We were working the day watch" and
other catch phrases - so popular as to inspire much parody
- set the realistic tone of this early police drama. The
show emphasized careful police work and the interweaving
of policemen's professional and personal lives. A timeless
classic - always entertaining. In this episode of the
series, Herb Ellis plays the part of Frank Smith. The
mounting tension and crime among local youths lead
Sergeants Friday and Smith to a narcotics ring run by a
neighborhood teenager. A brutal attack and theft of
narcotics lead to a manhunt for the young ring leader.
Police procedures lead to a shocking climax that parallels
todayıs events!
Public Defender -
Behind Bars -
1955
- 25 minutes -
Black & White - Legal drama about
a scrupulous public defender who makes sure all his
clients get their day in court and treated fairly. In this
episode a woman is accused of murder.
Gangbusters - Durable Mike Malloy -
1952 - 26 minutes - Black & White
- These action packed stories were taken from the files of
local Police, State Police, and FBI offices. Gangbusters
is based on the well-known network radio show which ran
from 1936-1957. The Gangbusters TV version ended its
telecast with a photo of one of the nation's most wanted
lawbreakers, resulting in the apprehension of many major
criminals. During the fall of 1952 Gangbusters averaged an
unheard of 42 rating, garnering virtually all the audience
available in its time slot. Nevertheless, this police
anthology series left the air in December 1952, making it
probably the highest rated program ever to be cancelled in
the history of television. In this episode two shady
characters find out that the town drunk has taken out an
extensive life insurance policy on himself, and so they
decide to test it out.
Racket Squad - Two For One -
1951 - 26 minutes - Black & White
- Season 2 - Episode 9 - Reed Hadley stars in this classic
TV crime drama as Capt. John Braddock, who hosts a series
of episodes dealing with the scams and cons the criminals
of America perpetrate every day. In this episode a
normally honest businessman (John Eldredge) close to
bankruptcy tries for easy money when he is offered $20,000
in counterfeit money for $10,000 in legitimate currency.
Picture-Quality varies on the DVD as each film has
experienced the ravages of time!!
