Join Betty Boop and her
musical pals as they boogie from one toon to another!
Enjoy America's favorite optimist in this toe-tapping,
sing-along festival of fun. From the swinging sounds of
Mary's little lamb, to the hilarious hillbillies of the
musical mountaineers, the harmonious characters featured
in this terrific collection will have you singing and
dancing from sunup to sundown!
Though
Betty began her illustrious career as a dog in Max
Fleischer's "Dizzy Dishes," eventually she developed into
a shockingly sexy, flapper-styled showgirl with curly
locks and a rosebud mouth. Over the years, Betty responded
to changing fashions of the day by adopting a more
conservative look. This collection offers a wonderful
survey that celebrates the magical allure of Betty and her
Boop-oop-a-doop.
Betty Boop - Musical
Mountaineers - 1939 - 6 minutes, 17 seconds -
Black & White - Animated - After running out of gas in
hillbilly country, Betty Boop seeks help from the locals,
but ends up being held at gunpoint. She proves her
identity as a dancer by putting on a demonstration; the
hillbillies join in with their genuine bluegrass stylings.
Won over, the rustics give Betty a jug of good ol' sour
mash to fuel her car.
Betty Boop - Song A Day - 1936 - 6 minutes, 54
seconds - Black & White - Animated - Betty Betty Boop is a
nurse at her own animal hospital. Betty tends to sick
giraffes, hippos and Billy goats. Her friend Grampy, who
comes to her assistance, is a lovable old buzzard.
Betty Boop - Rhythm On The Reservation -
1939 - 6 minutes, 2 seconds - Black & White - Animated -
Betty Boop takes an adventure to meet some real life
cartoon Indians and they erupt in an orgy of song and
dance. Betty is a one-woman swing band. A highlight is the
clever manner in which the characters create music and
swing. This is the last appearance of Betty Boop.
Politically incorrect in major ways - our apologies to the
easily offended.
Betty Boop - Stop That Noise - 1935 -
5 minutes, 55 seconds - Black & White - Animated - Driven
crazy by urban noises, Betty flees to the country. Betty Boop just wants a little peace and quiet but nature is
making too much of a ruckus - with bees, mosquitoes and
spiders. All the honking (and burping) ducks, buzzing bees
and pesky mosquitoes, pigs and cows send her back to the
good old city.
Sing Or Swim - 1948 - 7 minutes, 11
seconds - Color - Animated - The setting is Coney Island,
the famous Brooklyn beach which is crammed with
wall-to-wall bathers enjoying amusement park rides and
getting into innocent trouble in the sand. The final song,
appropriately enough, is By the Beautiful Sea.
This series was of animated cartoons that took
popular songs of the day and combined Famous Studios
animated stars in an effort for audience singalongs.
The Music Academy- 1965 - 7
minutes, 23 seconds - Color - Animated - The music
professor has his work cut out for him as his pupils'
enthusiasm for Liszt, Wagner and Mendelssohn's music get
them into trouble with their instruments. This
series of color films first aired on BBC television in
1965. Based on the books of caricaturist and musician
Gerard Hoffnung.
Mary's Little Lamb - 1935 - 7 minutes,
15 seconds - Color - Animated - An updated version
of the classic nursery rhyme in which Mary's persistent
pet lamb follows her to school. After several pupils
perform, the lamb disrupts the entire class while showing
hilarious talent of its own.
Retitled Mary's Little Lamb at School for home
exhibition.
Old MacDonald Had A Farm - Animated
Musical Memories - 1935 - 6 minutes,
54 seconds - Color - Animated - A medley of popular
turn-of-the-century songs accompanies an old couple's
reminiscences of their youth and courtship.
Picture-Quality varies on the DVD as each film has
experienced the ravages of time!!
