The Lucy Show
- Lucy Gets A Roommate
- 1966 - 25 minutes - Black & White -
Season 5 - Episode 7
- Lucy advertises for a roommate to help with the
expenses, and after reading the correspondence, she
finally decides on Carol Bradford (Carol Burnet), a frumpy
off-kilter librarian. Carol soon starts taking over,
reorganizing the apartment, laughing like a hyena, and
generally driving Lucy nuts. Lucy and Mary Jane scheme to
help Carol develop a social life (to keep her out of
Lucy's hair), so they have a small party to introduce her
to some boys. It isn't long before usually mild-mannered
Carol begins drinking, singing, and being the life of the
party. NOTE: Carol Burnett uses her trademark Tarzan yell
in both this and the following episode.
Andy Griffith -
Opie And The Spoiled Child -
1963
- 25 minutes -
Black & White - Season 3 - Episode
21 - Widower Sheriff
Andy and his son Opie live with Andy's Aunt Bea in
Mayberry, North Carolina. With virtually no crimes to
solve, most of Andy's time is spent philosophizing and
calming down his cousin Deputy Barney. In this episode child actor Ronnie Dapo delivers a
disturbingly realistic performance as young Arnold
Winkler, an obnoxious brat who has been spoiled rotten by
his widowed father (Harlan Warde). When Opie expresses
admiration for Arnold's new bicycle, Arnold helpfully
advises Opie that he can get a bike as well-if only he'd
learn how to throw temper tantrums in front of his own
father Andy. The climactic scene, in which Arnold finally
receives his comeuppance, is priceless.
George Burns & Gracie Allen
Show - Teenage Girl Spends The Weekend -
1951 - 25 minutes - Black & White - Season 1 - Episode
7 -
George and Gracie adapted their vaudeville stage routines
to the small screen into an eight year series. As always,
George had the dual role of on-screen narrator and
straight man for Gracie's scatterbrained ideas. From their
home in Beverly Hills, they interacted with neighbors and
other passer-bys to create as much confusion as can be put
into a half-hour show. No matter the escapade, George was
unflappable. He would simply turn to the camera, cigar in
hand and philosophize to the audience. In this episode
George and Gracie have a vacationing neighbor's teenaged
daughter as a house guest. They become involved in be-bop
dancing demonstrations. These three days turn into a wonderful experience
for everyone involved.
Dick Van Dyke - Hustling The Hustler -
1962 - 25 minutes - Black &
White - Season 2 - Episode 5 -
Buddy's hustling brother pays an unexpected visit and
tries to turn over a new leaf.
Picture-Quality varies on the DVD as each film has
experienced the ravages of time!!
