F. Ross Johnson heads a group that makes a $17.6 billion bid to buy his own company, Nabisco.

He personally stands to earn millions of dollars if the deal goes through. Henry Kravis, of the investment firm Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co., gets wind of the bid and makes a counter offer of $20 billion. The resulting charade of appalling greed and high-finance shenanigans was at the expense of workers and taxpayers. It is an amazing and sad commentary on American big business and the trendy corporate takeovers that defined the 1980s.

The true story of R.J.R. Nabisco CEO F. Ross Johnson's attempted leveraged buyout of the company. Johnson and Henry Kravis, lbo master, lock horns in this capitalist battle royalle.

RJR Nabisco was eventually sold for $25 billion.
